Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) is one of the Umm ul-Momineen (Mothers of the Believers), and the last wife of Muhammad (PBUH). Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) married Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in 630 CE.

Who Is Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA)?
Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) was the daughter of Harith-bin-Hazan and the twelfth wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). According to narrations, she was married twice before becoming Umm ul-Momineen. Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) was 36 years old and a widow when the 60-year-old Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) decided to marry her.
Her real name was Barrah, however, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) changed it to Maymuna, which means “good tidings.” According to Islamic traditions, the Messenger (PBUH) of Allah SWT named her Maymuna because after their marriage, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered his hometown of Makkah from Madinah after a period of seven years.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) tied the knot in a small village called Saraf, about 20 kilometres from Makkah, just after “Umrah in Zil-Qa’dah” (Lesser Pilgrimage). Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) was in her late 30s when she married the Messenger (PBUH) of Allah SWT.
There is a consensus among Islamic scholars according to which at the time of their union, Allah SWT revealed the following verse:
“It is not lawful for you (O Muhammad, to marry more) women after this, nor to exchange them for other wives, even though their beauty is pleasing to you, except those whom your right hand possesses (as maid servants); and Allah is always watching over everything.” [Holy Quran, 33:52]
Aisha (RA) said, “Maymoonah (RA) was the most pious, and the most mindful of her kith and kin, among the Prophet’s (PBUH) wives.”
Yazid-bin-Asam narrated, “She was seen either engaged in salat or in domestic work. When she was doing neither, she was busy in Miswak.”
It is said that after three years of marriage Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) passed away, after which Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) continued to live in Madinah for the next 40 years. She was a kind-hearted woman who greatly cared about looking after the people around her. Among all the wives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) was known for her piety and devotion with regards to worshipping Allah SWT.
According to Islamic narrations, Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) died in 632 CE (51 AH) at the age of 80. However, there are much speculation about the exact date passing of the wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
According to Al-Tabari: “Maymuna (RA) died in the year 61 AH (680–681 CE) during the caliphate of Yazid I. She was the last of the wives of the Prophet to die, and her age was then 80 or 81.” However, Al-Tabari asserts elsewhere that Umm Salama (RA) outlived Maymuna (RA).”
Ibn Hajar also cites a tradition indicating that Maymuna passed away before Aisha (RA): “We stood on the walls of Medina, looking out… [Aisha (RA) said]: ‘By Allah! Maymuna (RA) is no more! She has gone, and you are left free to do whatever you like. She was the most pious of all of us and the most devoted to her relatives.’”
On the day of Maymuna Bint Al-Harith’s (RA) farewell, Ibn Abbas (RA) said, “This is the wife of Allah SWT’s Messenger (PBUH), so when you lift her bier, do not shake her or disturb her, but be gentle.”
Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) was a woman of great intellect and knowledge. Throughout her life, Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) narrated several hadiths from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Most of her narrations were reported by Ibn al-Abbas (RA) and Yazid b. Asamm. The narrations of Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) can also be found in the compilations of Sahih Muslim and Sahih Al-Bukhari.
Where Is Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) Buried?
The grave of Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA), the last wife of the Messenger (PBUH) of Allah SWT, is situated on Hijrah Road in a small village named Saraf, which is about 20 kilometres north of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
A strange coincidence about the grave of Maymuna Bint Al-Harith (RA) is that she was buried right underneath the tree where she got married to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in 629 CE.

It is where the Messenger (PBUH) of Allah SWT spent the entire night asking for Allah SWT’s help.
The Muslim army arrived at Khateeb al-Hannan on the eve of the Battle of Badr. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) spent the whole night at Khateeb al-Hannan praying and supplicating at the foot of a tree.
By Allah SWT’s mercy, the gentle drizzling lulled the Muslim army into a refreshing sleep while the Messenger (PBUH) of Allah SWT kept praying. The Almighty recounts His (SWT) favour upon the believers in the following verse of the Holy Quran:
“Remember how Allah enveloped you with drowsiness to make you feel safe. He caused rain to descend upon you from heaven so you could clean yourselves – rain that also removed Satan’s influence, strengthened your hearts, and made you stand firm in battle.” [Holy Quran, 8:11]
Al Musayjeed
Al Musayjeed is a small village located near the city of Madinah in the western region of Saudi Arabia. It is where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) resided with his companions before the Battle of Badr. The Muslim army prayed Salah (Namaz) at Al Musayjeed. The old name of this area is Al-Munsarif, meaning “to leave.” After passing Al Musayjeed, the Muslim army passed Al-Wastah and then the valley of Al-Safra.
